- Price of entry. Ahrefs' MCP access requires a paid plan starting at $129 a month, and calls draw down metered API units on top. Month17 is free during early access ($10 a month later), and queries against your own archive aren't metered.
- Directness. Ahrefs serves your GSC data after it has passed through their platform. Month17 stores rows straight from Google's API under your own OAuth grant, and serves those.
- History. Ahrefs accumulates GSC data from the date you connected it and nothing earlier. Month17 starts by backfilling the 16 months Google still holds, then accumulates from there.
- Center of gravity. For Ahrefs, the GSC integration is one feature at the edge of a large platform. For Month17 it's the entire product, which is why things like
year_over_yearandcontent_decayexist as first-class MCP tools.
If you already pay for Ahrefs
Check when GSC was connected to your Ahrefs account. If it was years ago and never disconnected, you already hold more search history there than Google does, and the case for adding Month17 gets thinner. It comes down to whether you want the archive under your own grant, unmetered, and independent of a $129-a-month subscription staying active.
If you don't
Subscribing to Ahrefs just to stop Google deleting your own data is insurance priced as a platform. That's the gap Month17 sits in: the archiving and the MCP access, without the index you weren't going to use. Connect the properties you care about, let the backfill grab what's still inside the window, and the $129 question goes back to being about backlinks, where it belongs.
